30 Tips for the Best Tent Camping

When it comes to camping, we've done it all. Like most people, we started our love of camping in a tent. Even though we now normally camp in an RV, sometimes we feel an urge to tent camp. Camping in a tent gets you closer to nature and if the weather is right, it's an incredibly relaxing experience. 

But, you want to make sure you do it right. Here are our tips to have the best tent camping experience.  

 

    1. Choose a campsite that is safe, level, and dry.
    2. Set up your tent on a flat and even surface.
    3. Bring a good quality tent that can withstand the weather. Also, a small tarp to put, on the ground, under the tent. This can help protect the bottom of your tent. 
    4. Pack a sleeping bag and pillow that will keep you warm and comfortable. If you have a blow-up mattress or cot, that's even better. They will get you elevated off the ground and help you sleep more comfortably. 
    5. Bring a camping stove, cookware, and utensils for cooking meals.
    6. Bring enough food and water for the duration of your trip, and store any open food in the car when you go to bed at night. 
    7. Don't forget to pack a first aid kit with essential supplies like a lighter to start your fire. 
    8. Bring a flashlight or headlamp along with extra batteries.
    9. Pack clothing that is appropriate for the weather and activity.
    10. Wear comfortable and sturdy shoes for hiking and exploring.
    11. Get a few campground maps or a map of the area in case there is no phone service.
    12. Make sure to bring insect repellent and sunscreen.
    13. Keep a clean campsite by storing food properly and disposing of waste in designated areas.
    14. Don't leave any trash or litter behind.
    15. Respect the wildlife and natural environment.
    16. Plan activities such as hiking, fishing, or swimming to make the most of your camping experience.
    17. Bring a portable camping chair or hammock for relaxing.
    18. Bring a clothesline to tie to the trees for wet clothing, towels, etc. 
    19. Bring a portable power bank to keep your devices charged.
    20. Pack a portable Bluetooth speaker for music and entertainment.
    21. Bring a book or board game for downtime.
    22. Teach children camping safety and rules.
    23. Make sure to bring enough fuel for your camping stove.
    24. Bring another, larger tarp or in case of rain.
    25. Don't forget to pack a hat and sunglasses for sun protection.
    26. Bring a cooler with ice to keep food and drinks fresh.
    27. Research the campsite and surrounding area before your trip.
    28. Check the weather forecast before leaving home.
    29. Make sure to follow all campground rules and regulations.
